I would like to make a suggestion: when cooking to impress, stay away from things that you've never attempted. It's better to impress them with something that you already know you can do really well. What are some good recipes for traditional Chinese dishes?

Simply good old-fashioned stir-fry should do the trick! For a kick, make your own sweet and sour sauce!

Sweet and Sour Sauce (straight from Betty Crocker):

1/2 Cup packed brown sugar

1 tablespoon cornstarch (necessary for thickening)

1 can (8 oz.) crushed pineaplle in juice, drained- keep juice

1/3 cup white vinegar

1 tablespoon soy sauce

1/2 cup finely chopped green bell pepper

1. Mix brown sugar and corn starch.

2. Add enough water to pineapple juice to make 1/2 cup; stir into sugar mixture. Add vinegar and soy sauce.

3. Heat to boiling over medium heat, stirring constantly. Boil and stir 1 minute. Stir in pineapple and bell pepper.

4. Use sauce immediately, or cover and refridgerate up to 2 weeks or freez up to a year!

Stirfry:

1. Heat oil in a wok or frying pan.

2. Brown meat. (I usually use chicken, but steak or shrimp work well too-- Shrimp doesn't need to be browned)

3. Add veggies, put a lid on it and let cook.

I like onions, green/red bell peppers, water chesnuts,

green beans, carrots, broccoli, peapods, mini corn

4. When mostly cooked, add sauce as per taste!

While the stir-fry is cooking make rice. Instant white rice works well in the microwave. Just follow directions on package as far as servings go.
