Can I cook Chinese food in a crock pot?

I do most all of my cooking in a crock pot and I am searching for some Chinese recipes.

The deal is I am a beginner cook, so recipes must be SIMPLE.

I know rice is essential in Chinese cooking but I don't know how to prepare it. Can rice be cooked in a slow cooker?

I like General Tso's chicken best, but any rice/chicken,beef combo would do.

Any advice will be welcome.

I looked up the slow cooker in the wikipedia. I think the slow cooker is just what we use to prepare the rice in China. What we use is a cooker designed for rice. When the water is absorbed by the rice, the cooker will turn from heating to keeping-hot. If the slow cooker is one of these, then it can be used for rice preparation. Can I cook Chinese food in a crock pot?
If you have a small pot with a lid you can cook rice on the stove. I use Jasmine rice. Put rice in the pot and add enough water to cover up to 3/4 inch. An easy way to measure the water is to use the knuckle test 鈥?the water should come up to the first joint of your knuckle.

Cover the pot with the lid and don't open it. Cooks in 30 minutes. How you can tell it is done is when the rice is swollen and you cant see any water boiling. There might be a little burning at the bottom because the heat is not distributed evenly like a rice cooker

I never tried it in a slow cooker, I don't think it will heat up fast enough. Rice sitting in water too long and not being cooked will get mashy and soggy.

Here's some chinese crock pot recipes I found:

don't cook rice in a slow cooker.

measure out one cup of rice. wash it. drain . wash it again.

put in pot with 1 3/4 cups of water. put on the high heat. soon as it starts bubbling, cover pot, turn the heat to med low. let it steam for twenty minutes, turn off the heat. leave the lid closed. let it rest for twenty minutes then fluff up your perfect rice.
