At school I have to make something Chinese in cooking class - but I have no idea what to make. Also - I can't really cook!
Anyone got any easy %26amp; simple recipes?
Thanks :)Easy Chinese Recipes?
The Chinese Pepper steak is a good idea, but it isn't really a traditional/authentic Chinese dish...maybe we could find a better one for your class?
Minced Pork with Water Chestnut Lettuce Wraps
1/2 pound minced pork. Ask your butcher to mince it, if not available, then ground pork will do.
1 small can waterchestnuts (about 3 1/2 oz)...more if you like them, less if you don't
1 tsp Minced Garlic
1 Tbsp Light Soy Sauce
1/2 Tbsp Dark Soy Sauce
1 Tbsp Oyster Sauce
1 tsp Sugar
Dash of Sesame Oil
Dash of Pepper
8-12 Iceberg Lettuce Leaves, cut into large hand sized circles
Mix pork, water chestnuts and seasoning ingredients.
Lightly coat non-stick frying pan or wok with oil.
Stir-fry garlic until fragrant.
Add pork mixture and stir-fry until golden brown and cooked through.
Serve in individual portions in the lettuce leaf cups. If I was taking this somewhere like you will be, I'd prepare the lettuce at my destination and keep it in a whole head chilled in a cooler until it was serving time. If that is too much trouble, try this recipe, which is ideal those who don't want to go to a lot of trouble to make a dish:
Ruby Chicken
2pounds raw chicken cut into bit sized pieces
1medium onion
2tablespoons vegetable oil
2teaspoons soy sauce
1teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
1can orange juice, concentrated
2teaspoons orange zest grated
1pound cranberries
1cup sugar
Just chop onions, thaw orange juice and chicken(if chicken you bought is frozen), measure spices.
When you are ready, like the night before class, add ingredients to crockpot. Cook 8-10 hours, till done. Serve over hot cooked rice, with chopped green onions for garnish if you are up to it!
This is a dish that would be made traditionally at home for a family meal. While it is less traditional/authentic than other Chinese dishes, it's ease of preparation makes it tempting! It's flavor's remind me of Christmas, so try it again for your own family soon, or near Christmas to get into the mood for it all!
Finally, one of my favorite dishes to make; FRIED RICE:) Definitely traditional, defiantly a crowd pleaser, and VERY VERY easy, even for a child, to prepare and cook.
* 1 - 2 green onions, as desired
* 2 large eggs
* 1 teaspoon salt
* Pepper to taste
* 4 tablespoons oil for stir-frying, or as needed
* 4 cups cold cooked rice
* 1 - 2 tablespoons light soy sauce or oyster sauce, as desired
Preparation:
Wash and finely chop the green onion into disks. Lightly beat the eggs with the salt and pepper.
Put the eggs in a microwave safe bowl, and heat on high heat for 30 seconds, remove carefully, stir thoroughly, and repeat until the eggs are set.
Add 2 tablespoons oil. Add the rice to your pan or wok. Stir-fry for a few minutes, using chopsticks or a wooden spoon to break it apart. Take care not to mash the rice and break the grains down, just gently stir. Sprinkle in the soy sauce or oyster sauce as desired. Be careful, they are strong and salty flavors!
When the rice is heated through, add the scrambled egg back into the pan. Mix thoroughly. Stir in the green onion. Serve hot. If you wish, you can also add in a package of cooked microwave-prep peas or peas and carrots mix when you add in the egg. Any diced or cubed cooked meat would be good also here...chicken, pork, bbq pork, ham, beef, or even BACON (what I usually add) is great! A can of drained shrimp works too, but I'd do that at home, not for school. :)
Hope this helps you! Let us know if you need other recipes!
Buy a bag of Tyson Chicken Nuggets (the "popcorn chicken kind) and a jar of orange marmalade, some soy sauce, a bag of frozen stir fry veggies and some pre-cooked white rice
In a pan, stir fry the veggies, add the chicken and stir fry for ten minutes. Mix the marmalade with 3 tbsp soy sauce in bowl and pour over the chicken and veggies. Cook another five minutes.
Serve over warm rice. YUMMY and oh so easy!
